Two rooms, one owner
Jim Ross owns both Mercury Chophouse – Arlington and Hearsay – Arlington. He has lived in Arlington since 1983, served as a police officer here, and practices law here, and both restaurants are run from the city rather than from a head office. Neither is a chain, and neither has a second location.
They are different concepts on purpose. Mercury is a steakhouse on the ninth floor of an office tower on E Lamar Blvd. Hearsay is a seafood restaurant with a Prohibition-era atmosphere inside Choctaw Stadium, the former ballpark on Ballpark Way that now hosts the UFL’s Arlington Renegades and other events. The two doors are about 0.7 mile and three minutes apart.

When Mercury is the right call
Choose Mercury when the meal is about the steak, the view or the room. The dry-aged 36 oz porterhouse at $175, the 8 oz Wagyu filet at $105 and the hand-cut ribeye at $75 are the reasons people ride the elevator to nine, and a sunset from the curved window wall is the reason they book the west side. Choose it too for a private dinner: the Boardroom seats 8 to 20 with an AV system, and semi-private seating handles 28. Mercury is also the one with lunch: weekdays from 11 AM, with a $17 Chophouse Burger and a 6 oz filet at $54, on the same ninth floor.

When Hearsay is the right call
Choose Hearsay when seafood is the point, or when the evening is already inside Choctaw Stadium. The Prohibition-era atmosphere suits a night that wants to feel like a speakeasy rather than a chophouse, and being inside the stadium means an event there and dinner are in the same building. Mercury’s own seafood, a seared sea bass at $57 and crab cakes at $44, is a good alternative if you want fish with the view, but for a menu built around seafood, Hearsay is the sister to book. Doing both on one visit
The distance makes a two-stop evening easy. A drink at Mercury’s marble-topped bar, where the Steakhouse Old-Fashioned is $19 and the view is at its best around sunset, followed by seafood at Hearsay, or dinner at Mercury followed by a late stop at Hearsay, is a three-minute drive either way. The only fixed constraint is Mercury’s schedule: closed Sunday, and Saturday from 4 PM only. Whatever Hearsay’s hours are on a given day, confirm them before you plan around them.
