What late means here

Some cities have steakhouses seating at 11 PM. Arlington is not one of them, and it is better to say so plainly than have you drive up nine floors to a dark room. At Mercury Chophouse, late means the last hour or so before a 10 PM close on Friday and Saturday, or before a 9 PM close Monday through Thursday. The restaurant does not publish a last-seating time or a kitchen-closing time, so the guidance below is ours, built to leave room for a full meal.

Fridays and Saturdays are the late nights

The 10 PM close on the two weekend nights is what makes a late dinner work. An 8:30 table on a Friday gets a full run at the menu with the district lit up below the curved window wall, and the sun already down in every month but June and July. The garage is at the tower door, so the late arrival is an elevator ride, not a hunt for a space.

The room changes after 8. The early tables have turned, the chandeliers carry the light, and on select evenings the grand piano by the windows near the bar is being played. The bar itself, marble-topped with a full back bar and TVs, is where a late solo diner or a pair usually ends up. The dress code does not relax with the hour: business casual, no caps or hoodies or athletic wear, whatever time you walk in.

After a game or a concert: the honest answer

This is the late-dinner question the district asks most, and the answer is mostly no. Rangers weeknight games start around 7 PM and end after the 9 PM weeknight close. Friday and Saturday night games usually run past 10 as well. Concerts at Globe Life Field and AT&T Stadium end later still. Cowboys home games are mostly Sundays, when the restaurant is closed.

What does work: a Rangers or Cowboys day game, which ends with hours to spare; an early-evening event that lets out by 8:30 on a Friday or Saturday; or the reverse plan, dinner before the game and a bar somewhere else after. A late-seating order

A table seated at 8:30 does not need the 36 oz porterhouse. The menu has a lighter path that still reads as dinner. To start, the MCA Shrimp Cocktail at $19, chilled with avocado-lime purée, or the Salmon Mousse at $18. A Traditional Caesar at $16 or the Wedge at $18. Then the 6 oz Center-Cut Filet Mignon at $62, the Grilled Chicken Pasta at $29 with pappardelle and cremini mushrooms, or the Crab Cakes entrée at $44 over whipped potatoes.

Or skip the main and make it a dessert table. Crème Brûlée at $15, Key Lime Pie at $16, New York Cheesecake at $15 with berry coulis. Late dinner, not late night

A few things this is not. It is not a late-night bar; the published hours are one set for the whole restaurant, and no separate bar close is listed. It is not a Sunday option, ever. It is not a place to arrive at 9:45 on a Saturday expecting the full menu; that is dessert-and-a-drink time at best, and it is a question for the phone, not a plan. And it is not a walk-in guarantee, since no walk-in policy is published. What it is: a ninth-floor room with white tablecloths and a view that, at 9 PM on a Friday with the stadium lights on, is at its best.
