The drive north from Mansfield

Mansfield sits at the south end of Arlington’s orbit, and Mercury Chophouse is at the north end of it, about 15 miles away. Outside of rush hour the drive is about 25 minutes, most of it on Highway 360. Exit at E Lamar Blvd and the Brookhollow Two tower is about a mile west of the interchange, with its own garage and outdoor lot. The garage and the outdoor lot are at the door.

That is a shorter trip than the drive to downtown Fort Worth or Dallas, and the dinner at the end of it happens nine floors up, over the stadiums, with sunset through the windows.

The occasions Mansfield drives for

A 25-minute drive is what people make for a night that matters: an anniversary, a parent’s birthday, a graduation, the dinner where the question gets asked. Mercury is built for those. The dining room follows a curved wall of floor-to-ceiling glass, so the sunset arrives at the table, and the west end of the room catches it best. A grand piano stands by the windows near the bar and is played on select evenings; ask which nights when you book.

White tablecloths, leather chairs, tufted booths and crystal chandeliers do the rest. The anniversary page and the dinner with parents page take those two evenings one at a time.

The view is the part the drive buys. From the ninth floor of Brookhollow Two you look over AT&T Stadium about 1.5 miles away, Globe Life Field about a mile away, the Six Flags tower and the district hotels, and on a game night the stadium lights are part of the picture. Mansfield residents who bring guests from out of town use it to show them the stadiums without buying a ticket.

Saturday night, planned from Mansfield

Saturday is the family night, because the restaurant is closed on Sunday. The room opens at 4 PM for dinner only and serves until 10 PM.

In summer the sun sets later, around 8:35 PM in June and July, so push the reservation to 7 or 7:30 if the sunset is the point. Reservations are recommended for any Saturday and for every stadium event night.

Order for the table

For four people, the Land & Sea Sampler at $26 per person is the easy start. The Dry-Aged 36 oz Porterhouse at $175 is built to share; the Double-Bone Pork Chop at $59 and the Chicken Saltimbocca at $42 cover the guests who want something other than a steak. Shareable sides such as the Mac-n-Cheese at $15 and Whipped Potatoes at $14 go in the middle. Note the $25 split plate fee on composed entrées and the 20% gratuity added for parties of six or more.

Dessert for a celebration is the Strawberry Cake or Italian Cream Cake at $17, or the Brownie with vanilla ice cream at $15. The menu has everything else.

The dress code is business casual, which for a family group means jeans without rips are fine, collared shirts are encouraged, and athletic wear, hoodies and ball caps stay home. Hats, cowboy or otherwise, come off at the table.

Groups from Mansfield: the Boardroom

For a graduation dinner, a retirement or a company night out, the Boardroom seats 8 to 20 at one long table with the windows behind it, and semi-private arrangements go up to 28. It has a fully integrated AV system and a large screen. A food and beverage minimum applies and is quoted with the proposal, and one check is presented for the room. Submit a private dining request; replies take up to 48 hours. Private dining menus can be tailored to the group.

Weekday lunch, if the drive is on your way

Mansfield people who work along Highway 360 or near the district can use Mercury at lunch, Monday through Friday from 11 AM. Chicken Fried Steak with rye whiskey cream gravy is $24, the Wagyu London Broil is $65, and the Club Sandwich with fries, salad or soup is $14. Same linen, same view, in daylight.
