Twenty-five minutes from Keller and Westlake

Keller and Westlake are both about 18 miles from Mercury’s door, and the drive runs about 25 minutes when the highways are clear. From Westlake and the east side of Keller, Highway 360 south to the E Lamar Blvd exit is the straightforward approach; the Brookhollow Two tower is about a mile west of the interchange. Reasons to make the drive

Keller and Westlake have their own places to eat, so the drive south is for something they do not have. Mercury occupies the ninth and top floor of an office tower just north of the Entertainment District, and its dining room runs along a curved wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. Below the glass are AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field, the Six Flags tower and the district hotels; sunset comes through the west end of the room.

Inside, the room is white tablecloths, leather chairs, tufted booths and crystal chandeliers, with a grand piano beside the windows near the marble-topped bar and live piano on select evenings. That is the setting people drive 25 minutes for: an anniversary, a milestone birthday, a proposal with the district lit behind it, or a night to show visiting family the stadiums from above. Cowboys Thursdays and Rangers weeknights from the north

Coming down 360, a Keller or Westlake driver turns onto Lamar and reaches the tower’s parking lot before meeting any stadium traffic, because Mercury sits north of the district and off its main lots. Going home is the same road in reverse. AT&T Stadium is about 1.5 miles from the restaurant and Globe Life Field about a mile.

Cowboys home games fall mostly on Sundays, when Mercury is closed, so the game dinners that work are Thursday, Monday and Saturday games, and the Friday or Saturday night before a Sunday kickoff. Rangers weeknight first pitches are usually around 7 PM, which suits a 5 or 5:30 table. The Cowboys pre-game page has the timing worked out.

Dinner for the drive

The kitchen’s top end is the 27 oz Wagyu Long Bone Ribeye at $210 and the 8 oz Wagyu Filet at $105. The Center-Cut Filet Mignon is $62 for 6 oz and $74 for 8 oz, and the Crab Cakes entrée with whipped potatoes and asparagus is $44. The non-steak order at most tables is the Seared Sea Bass over corn risotto, $57, or $77 Imperial with crab and Gulf shrimp. Shareable sides include Burgundy Mushrooms at $15 and Grilled Asparagus at $18.

From the bar, the Flight Delay, built on Citadelle gin with maraschino and violette, is $16; the Ladies First with berry coulis and rosé bubbles is $16; the Espresso Martini is $17. Westlake companies and the Boardroom

For a company based in Westlake or Keller, the Boardroom is a private dinner venue 25 minutes away with a view no conference room has. It seats 8 to 20 at one long table with the windows behind it, and semi-private seating reaches 28. A fully integrated AV system and a large screen handle a presentation or a game. One check is presented, a food and beverage minimum is quoted with the proposal, and private dining menus can be tailored. Timing a Saturday night

Saturday service runs 4 PM to 10 PM, dinner only, with free parking at the door. Leaving Keller at 6 puts you at the elevator by about 6:30, seated by 6:45, and in September the sun sets around 7:35 PM through the west windows. Dessert at 9, back to the car by 9:30, and home a little after 10. In December, with sunset near 5:25 PM, move the whole evening two hours earlier.

Friday works the same way with a later start, since lunch service means the room is open from 11 AM straight through to 10 PM. Either night, book ahead; the district’s event calendar fills the dining room faster than the day of the week does.
