Out the hotel door, up nine floors

Loews Arlington Hotel stands at 888 Nolan Ryan Expressway, connected to the Arlington Convention Center in the middle of the Entertainment District. Mercury Chophouse – Arlington is about 0.6 mile north, on the ninth floor of the Brookhollow Two office tower at 2221 E Lamar Blvd. From the hotel, follow Nolan Ryan Expressway north until it meets E Lamar Blvd, turn east, and the tower is on Lamar. Three minutes, one turn.

Park in the tower’s garage or its outdoor lot at no charge, then take the elevator from the lobby to Suite 910. If you are arriving from the airport instead, Highway 360 runs straight down from DFW to the Lamar exit, about a mile east of the restaurant. Dallas is about 20 miles east on I-30 and Fort Worth about 17 miles west, so Mercury also works as the meeting point for guests driving in from either city to see someone staying at the hotel.

A local room rather than a hotel dining room

Mercury is owned by Jim Ross, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who moved to Arlington in 1983, served as an Arlington police officer, and later founded a law practice in the city. The restaurant is his, not a brand’s, and the room shows it: white tablecloths and linen napkins, leather chairs, tufted booths under a blue-lit banquette wall, crystal chandeliers, a glass-front wine wall at the entrance and a grand piano by the windows.

The windows are the reason to leave the hotel. A curved wall of floor-to-ceiling glass faces west and southwest over the district, taking in the Six Flags Over Texas tower, Globe Life Field, AT&T Stadium and Hurricane Harbor. The sun sets into it: about 8:35 PM in June, 7:00 PM in October, 5:25 PM in December. Live piano plays on select evenings; call 817-381-1157 to ask which. What a dinner runs

A 20% gratuity is added for parties of six or more, and composed entrées carry a $25 split plate fee. Everything else is on the menu.

Back at the hotel by ten

The doors open at 11 AM Monday through Friday and 4 PM Saturday; the kitchen closes at 9 PM Monday through Thursday and 10 PM Friday and Saturday, and Sunday the restaurant is dark. For a hotel guest, that means a 7 PM weeknight reservation lands you back at Loews well before ten, and a Friday or Saturday booking has an extra hour of room. Sunday is the night to plan around; the restaurant does not open.

Reservations are recommended for Friday and Saturday nights and for any evening that coincides with a Rangers or Cowboys home date or a stadium concert. Those nights fill from the district’s hotels first. The hotel dinner page has more on timing. A walk-in policy is not published, so treat the phone call as the walk-in: the host can say what is open that night.

Lunch next door to the convention center

Because Loews is attached to the convention center, plenty of its guests are in Arlington on business. The lunch menu runs Monday through Friday from 11 AM: the Marinated Steak Sandwich is $19, the Crab & Shrimp Louie is $24, the Grilled Chicken Pasta is $18, and the 6 oz Center-Cut Filet Mignon is $54 at midday. Small groups from the hotel

The Boardroom takes 8 to 20 at one long table behind a frosted glass door, with semi-private options to 28. It is used for client dinners, family celebrations and watch parties on its large screen, and it shares the dining room’s view. One check is presented for the room, a food and beverage minimum applies to parties of 10 or more, and requests through the event inquiry form are answered within 48 hours. The room is also where the restaurant suggests watching the Rangers and the Cowboys, whose stadiums are in the window behind the screen.
