Sunset times in Arlington, month by month, and when to book

The sun does not wait for a 7:30 reservation. In June it sets after most people have finished dessert; in December it is gone before many offices close. Use the table to pick a reservation time, then add a note asking for a window table.

The book-by column is sunset less 45 minutes, enough to be seated, order a drink and have a starter on the table as the light changes. Sunset times are approximate and shift a few minutes across each month, so check the exact date when it matters.

Where the sun goes down from the ninth floor

The main dining room is wrapped in a curved wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. From a table at that wall, the Entertainment District sits below: Globe Life Field and AT&T Stadium, Hurricane Harbor, and the tower at Six Flags Over Texas standing up out of the park. The sunset falls to the west and southwest, across that skyline, which is why the restaurant calls it a signature of the room.

The light moves in stages. First the stadium roofs go gold. Then the room’s crystal chandeliers start to matter more than the windows. Then the district lights come on below, stadium lights on game nights, the park’s rides on summer evenings, and the window turns into the second view of the night. Window tables and how to ask

Window tables are not guaranteed. The restaurant has not published a way to reserve a specific table, and on a Friday or Saturday the whole wall is spoken for early. What works: book through OpenTable or 817-381-1157, put “window table for sunset” in the reservation note, and arrive on time. A weeknight in spring or fall is the easiest window to get; a Saturday in June is the hardest.

For a group of 8 to 20, there is a different answer. The Boardroom, the private room behind the frosted glass door, has what the restaurant describes as Arlington’s best panoramic view of the district and calls a perfect place to watch the sunset. It is booked through the private dining page, one check, with a reply within 48 hours.

Ordering around the light

Plan the meal so the slow part happens after dark. Start with something cold and quick while the sun is still up: the Gulf Shrimp & Jumbo Lump Crab Ceviche at $23, the MCA Shrimp Cocktail at $19, or a Caprese Salad at $18. A glass of wine or a Ladies First cocktail at $16, vodka, lemon, berry coulis and rosé bubbles, belongs in that half hour.

Then the steak, once the chandeliers have taken over: a Center-Cut Filet Mignon at $62 for 6 oz, the Bone-In Ribeye at $90, or the Seared Sea Bass at $57 with corn risotto. Seasons and the closing hour

The hours shape which sunsets are practical. Monday through Thursday the restaurant closes at 9 PM, so a June or July sunset at 8:35 leaves about an hour after the seating in the table above; Friday and Saturday run to 10 PM and fit a summer sunset dinner without hurry. In November and December the sun is down by 5:30, which on a weekday falls in the afternoon service and on Saturday lands minutes after the 4 PM opening. Ask which menu is being served at that hour when you book, since the lunch-to-dinner switch time is not published. Sundays are closed year round, so a Sunday sunset is not on offer.
