Coming in for the last course

Mercury Chophouse – Arlington is that room from the ninth floor of Brookhollow Two, and it keeps its dessert, coffee and after-dinner list going until the kitchen closes.

The restaurant does not publish a dessert-only seating policy, so the practical step is to call 817-381-1157 on the night and ask; a quiet Tuesday is a different question from a Saturday with a concert at AT&T Stadium. Globe Life Field is about 1 mile away, and with most weeknight first pitches around 7 PM, a game that ends by 9:30 leaves time for the Friday and Saturday 10:00 PM close but not for the 9:00 PM close Monday through Thursday. Coffee and espresso

The Affogato is the smallest dessert on the menu, espresso over ice cream, and at $8 it is the right order for a guest who wants a taste of sweetness with the coffee rather than a full slice. Hot tea at $4 is the quiet alternative, and a cappuccino or latte at $6 is the order for a guest who wants milk without sweetness. The Cafe con Crema Dulce, $10, is the house’s sweet-cream coffee; the menu does not print its build, so ask your server what goes into it.

Coffee with a spirit in it

Three coffee libations are on the list at $16 each. The Classic Irish is made with Jameson, and an upgrade to Redbreast 12 is $6 more. The Keoke pairs Ferrand 1840 Cognac with Mozart, and the Mexican Coffee uses Arette Reposado tequila and Kahlua.

Five shaken ice cream cocktails, from the Grasshopper at $17 to the Brandy Alexander at $18, are the middle path for a table that wants dessert without a plate. Coffee, dessert and a port for two lands around $60 before gratuity, and a 20% gratuity is added automatically for parties of six or more.

The room at the end of the night

After 9 PM the ninth floor is at its quietest and darkest. The chandeliers are low, the curved window wall shows the district lit up below, and on select evenings the grand piano beside the windows is being played; call to ask which nights. The marble-topped bar has TVs for anyone who wants to catch the end of the game with a cognac.

Dress is business casual, so a couple coming from the ballpark should leave caps and jerseys in the car. Free garage and outdoor parking is available at the tower.
