South on 360, 18 minutes

Highway 360 runs straight from Grapevine down to Arlington’s Entertainment District, and Mercury is about a mile west of the E Lamar Blvd exit. The whole trip is about 13 miles and 18 minutes outside rush hour. Park in the tower’s garage or its outdoor lot, at no charge, and ride the elevator to the ninth floor.

Saturday opens at 4 PM, and the restaurant is closed on Sunday.

The road matters on event nights. Because the tower sits just north of the stadium district and off its lots, a Grapevine driver coming down 360 turns onto Lamar and reaches the parking lot before meeting any stadium traffic, and goes home the same way.

A wine list worth the drive

Grapevine guests tend to know wine, so start there. The glass-front wine wall behind the hostess stand holds a list that is deepest in Pinot Noir and in West Coast red blends. The Pinots run from Ken Wright’s Willamette bottling at $78 to $279. The blends run from Roth Heritage at $78 through The Prisoner at $85 and Cain Five at $248 to Quintessa at $525 and Opus One 2022 at $686.

The international side covers Bordeaux, Barolo, Brunello, Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Amarone, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Mendoza Malbec, from $77 up to a 1999 Musar at $379. Wines are poured by the glass and by the bottle, and the port list after dinner includes a Messina Hof Papa Paulo from Texas at $16 and a Kopke Colheita 1985 at $48. The view from the top floor

Mercury has the ninth and top floor of the Brookhollow Two office tower, just north of the district, and the dining room is built along a curved wall of floor-to-ceiling glass. Below it are AT&T Stadium, the roof of Globe Life Field, the Six Flags Over Texas tower, Hurricane Harbor and the district hotels. Sunset comes through the west end of the room. Inside are white tablecloths, leather chairs, tufted booths, crystal chandeliers and a grand piano by the windows near the bar, played on select evenings. The bar is part of the view. Its marble top runs near the piano and the glass, with a full back bar and TVs, so a drink before the table is ready comes with the district below. The cocktail list starts at $16, with the 2017 Sidecar made with Ferrand 1840 at $17 and the Paper Plane at $18.

If you are staying near the airport

Grapevine is where many DFW travelers sleep, and Mercury is about 12 miles from the airport by the same Highway 360. A traveler with an evening free can be at a window table in about 20 minutes. Dinner runs until 9 PM Monday through Thursday and 10 PM Friday and Saturday. The steaks, and the sister restaurant

The Center-Cut Filet Mignon is $62 for 6 oz and $74 for 8 oz. The Bone-In Ribeye with Dijon butter is $90, the Espresso-Rubbed Elk with whipped potatoes and broccolini is $85, and the 27 oz Wagyu Long Bone Ribeye is $210. Shareable sides come to the middle of the table: Burgundy Mushrooms $15, Creamed Spinach $16, Grilled Asparagus $18.
