An evening free near DFW
The airport hotels have restaurants, and they are fine for a sandwich. An evening free deserves a reason to drive, and this is it: a top-floor dining room just north of the Arlington Entertainment District, with a curved wall of floor-to-ceiling windows over AT&T Stadium about 1.5 miles away, Globe Life Field about a mile away, the Six Flags tower and the district hotels. It is the skyline most travelers have only seen on a football broadcast, and you are above it with a steak.
Sunset comes through the west end of the glass, around 8:35 PM in June and 5:25 PM in December, and a grand piano beside the windows is played on select evenings. White tablecloths, leather chairs and chandeliers finish the room. The layover page covers the tighter version of this evening.
Lunch counts as an evening free too, for a morning arrival: the lunch menu runs Monday through Friday from 11 AM, with the Center-Cut Filet Mignon 6 oz at $54, the Wagyu London Broil at $65 and the Chophouse Burger at $17, in the same room with the district in daylight.
Airport-area business dinners
When a team is flying in from both coasts, DFW is the meeting point and Mercury’s Boardroom is the table. It seats 8 to 20 at one long table with the windows behind it, and semi-private seating extends to 28. A fully integrated AV system and a large screen run the deck. One check is presented, the food and beverage minimum is quoted in the written proposal, and menus can be tailored to the group. The private dining request gets a reply within 48 hours.
Las Colinas is about 18 minutes from the same door and Grapevine about 13 miles, so colleagues based near the airport and colleagues arriving through it converge easily. The conference group dinner page goes into the logistics.
What to order when you have one night
With one dinner in Texas, order the thing you cannot get at home.
| Dish | Price |
|---|---|
| 27 oz Wagyu Long Bone Ribeye, crispy onion strings, Dijon butter | $210 |
| Dry-Aged 36 oz Porterhouse, bone marrow confited shallots | $175 |
| 8 oz Wagyu Filet, herbal compound butter | $105 |
| Center-Cut Filet Mignon 6 oz / 8 oz | $62 / $74 |

Pour something Texan alongside: Garrison Brothers Small Batch at $23 or Ironroot Harbinger at $20, both 2 oz. Finish with the Cherry & Pecan Bread Pudding at $16 or a Mexican Coffee with Arette Reposado at $16. The menu guide explains the cuts.
Dressing for it out of a suitcase
The dress code is business casual, and travel clothes mostly pass. Unripped jeans with a collared shirt are fine, and a sports coat is encouraged but not required; no jacket or tie is needed. What does not pass: athletic wear, hoodies, sweatpants, graphic T-shirts, baseball caps and beanies, flip-flops and slides. For women, yoga pants and loungewear are too casual. Hats come off at the table. Management can decline service for non-adherence, so change at the hotel if the flight was a hoodie kind of flight.
Getting back
Lamar east to Highway 360 north returns you to the airport in the same 15 to 20 minutes, outside stadium event traffic. The tower sits off the district’s main lots, so even on a Rangers night the road out is Lamar, not a stadium exit. The garage and the outdoor lot are both steps from the lobby, and both are free.
If the flight home is early the next morning, the drive back to an airport hotel is the same 20 minutes, and the restaurant’s 10 PM Friday and Saturday close leaves time for dessert first.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Mercury Chophouse from DFW Airport?
About 12 miles, which is 15 to 20 minutes by Highway 360 south to the E Lamar Blvd exit, then about a mile west. The restaurant is on the ninth floor of the Brookhollow Two office tower at 2221 E Lamar Blvd, with free garage and outdoor parking on site.
Can I make dinner here work on a layover?
With a long one. Allow 20 minutes each way plus airport time on both ends, and a steak dinner is 90 minutes at a comfortable pace, so a layover under four hours is a stretch. For anything longer, it is one of the better ways to spend a DFW evening. The restaurant is closed on Sunday.
Is it open late enough after an evening arrival?
The kitchen serves until 9 PM Monday through Thursday and until 10 PM Friday and Saturday. A flight landing at 7:30 PM can make a 9 PM table on a Friday or Saturday but not on a weeknight. Sunday is closed, so a Sunday arrival should plan for Monday.
Is there a private room for a team flying in?
Yes. The Boardroom seats 8 to 20 at one long table with the ninth-floor windows behind it, or up to 28 semi-private, and has a large screen with integrated AV. It is billed on one check with a food and beverage minimum quoted in the proposal. Requests are answered within 48 hours.
Can I come straight from the plane in jeans and a polo?
Yes. Unripped jeans and a collared shirt meet the business-casual code. Leave the hoodie, athletic wear, baseball cap and flip-flops in the bag; those are not permitted. A sports coat is encouraged but optional, and no jacket or tie is required.
