Eight minutes from Viridian
Viridian sits on the north edge of Arlington, and Mercury Chophouse is about 3 miles south of it on E Lamar Blvd, an 8-minute drive outside event traffic. That makes it the closest thing Viridian has to a neighborhood steakhouse, even though the room itself is anything but neighborhood: the ninth and top floor of the Brookhollow Two office tower, wrapped in a curved wall of floor-to-ceiling glass over the stadiums.
Park in the tower’s garage or its outdoor lot, take the elevator to nine, and look for the doors marked Suite 910. The drive home is the same 8 minutes, and the car is parked at the door.
The view is what separates it from every other option in the neighborhood. From the ninth floor you look south over AT&T Stadium, the roof of Globe Life Field, the Six Flags tower and the district hotels, and on a game night the stadiums are lit. Sunset comes through the west end of the curved window wall.
The weeknight version
Monday through Thursday the restaurant is open until 9 PM, and a weeknight table does not have to mean a $210 ribeye. The Chophouse Classics run lighter and cheaper: Grilled Chicken Pasta with pappardelle and cremini mushrooms at $29, Tortellini Bolognese at $32, Chicken Saltimbocca at $42. The Wedge and the Caprese are $18 each, the Savory Meatballs with house-made marinara are $18, and the Soup du Jour is $8 a cup.
The bar works for a weeknight too. Draft beer is $7 to $8, with Manhattan Project’s Half Life hazy IPA, Peacekeeper blonde and Necessary Evil pilsner on tap, and the marble-topped bar has TVs and the view. The non-steak entrées page covers the lighter side of the menu.
The Friday and Saturday version
Friday runs 11 AM to 10 PM and Saturday 4 PM to 10 PM, and this is when the room becomes the occasion. Sunset comes through the west windows, around 8:15 PM in August and 7:00 PM in October. Live piano plays on select evenings from the grand piano beside the glass; which nights is not published, so ask when you book.
The steaks take over: Hand-Cut Ribeye $75, Bone-In Ribeye $90, Center-Cut Filet Mignon 6 oz $62 or 8 oz $74, and the Dry-Aged 36 oz Porterhouse at $175 for two. Through the end of September, Prime Rib Nights add a 14 oz prime rib dinner with mashed potatoes, au jus and horseradish crème for $50 on Friday and Saturday, while supplies last. Reservations are recommended on both nights and on any stadium event night.
A Saturday table also means the dessert list gets its due: Italian Cream Cake and Strawberry Cake at $17, Crème Brûlée at $15, and a Grasshopper shaken with ice cream at $17 from the bar.
Neighbors and groups
When a street’s worth of neighbors, a family milestone or a youth-league banquet needs one table, the Boardroom holds 8 to 20 at a single long table with the windows behind it, and semi-private seating stretches to 28. Its large screen and integrated AV make it a watch-party room on a Cowboys Thursday. The room receives one check, a food and beverage minimum is quoted with the proposal, and the inquiry form is answered within 48 hours. Parties of six or more anywhere in the restaurant carry a 20% gratuity.
Lunch when you work from home
Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11 AM, and 8 minutes from Viridian makes it a working lunch you can take without losing the afternoon.
