A weekday lunch with Mom
The lunch menu runs Monday through Friday from 11 AM and is a better fit for some mothers than a steak dinner. The Crab & Shrimp Louie is $24, the Cobb in a Mold is $16 with applewood-smoked bacon, avocado and Gorgonzola, and the Caprese with heirloom tomato and burrata is $18. Any salad takes grilled salmon or grilled shrimp for $15 more. The Cedar Plank Grilled Salmon is $24 at lunch, the Grilled Chicken Pasta is $18, and the 6 oz Center-Cut Filet is $54. Saturday dinner with the sunset
Saturday, May 8 opens at 4 PM for dinner only. In May the sun sets at about 8:15 PM behind the district, so a 7:30 table gets the light and the lights that follow, while a 5 PM table suits a family with young children or grandparents who would rather be home early. Ask for a window table or a booth when you book; both are requested rather than promised. Live piano plays on select evenings, and Saturday is not guaranteed to be one of them, so ask. Free garage and outdoor parking is at the tower, and the elevator brings everyone to Suite 910.
Three generations at one table
Mother’s Day tables tend to be big, and the booking rules change with size. Six or more guests carry a 20% gratuity. Ten or more meet a food and beverage minimum based on party size. Twelve or more in the main room receive a single check.
For 8 to 20 people, The Boardroom seats everyone at one long table with its own window view of the district and a large screen, so the grandchildren’s photos can run while dinner is served. Semi-private seating extends to 28. Menus can be tailored, the minimum is quoted in the written proposal, and the request goes through the event inquiry form with a reply inside 48 hours. What to order for the table
Dinner leans toward dishes that are not steak as often as ones that are. The Chicken Saltimbocca ($42) is wrapped in prosciutto and sage with mushroom Marsala. The Seared Sea Bass ($57) comes on corn risotto with beurre blanc. The Cedar Plank Grilled Salmon is $48. For the steak eaters, the 6 oz Center-Cut Filet is $62 and the Hand-Cut Ribeye is $75. Sides go in the middle of the table: Grilled Asparagus ($18), Corn Risotto ($16), Whipped Potatoes ($14).
Dessert is where the table agrees. Strawberry Cake ($17), Italian Cream Cake ($17) and Key Lime Pie ($16) are the three built for passing around the table, and the Cafe con Crema Dulce ($10) or a Golden Cadillac Eldorado ($18) closes it for the adults. Warm bread with garlic butter arrives first, so pace the starters.
If you cannot be at the table
An eGift card through Toast lets Mom pick her own night on the ninth floor, and the balance can be checked at the same site. Reservations for the weekend go through OpenTable or the phone, and a table for more than six is best booked by phone. Dress for the room is business casual; refined separates or a dress for her, collared shirts for the men, no athletic wear or ball caps. Jeans without rips are welcome.
