A mile from the ballpark, one turn off Lamar

Globe Life Field, at 734 Stadium Dr, is the Texas Rangers’ retractable-roof ballpark, open since 2020. Mercury Chophouse – Arlington is about a mile north of it on the ninth floor of the Brookhollow Two tower, 2221 E Lamar Blvd, Suite 910. The drive is about four minutes when the district is quiet.

From the ballpark, take Ballpark Way north; it carries the name Nolan Ryan Expressway through the stadium blocks and meets E Lamar Blvd just past the district’s north edge. Turn east and the tower is on Lamar. Parking is in the tower’s garage or its outdoor lot, and the elevator from the lobby goes to Suite 910. Reverse it after dinner and you are at the ballpark lots in one straight run south. If you are arriving from farther out, Highway 360 meets Lamar about a mile east of the restaurant and I-30 is about a mile south.

Weeknight games: dinner before a 7 PM first pitch

The Rangers play 81 home dates, most of them evenings, and most weeknight first pitches are around 7 PM. That leaves room for a real dinner if you sit down by 5. Here is how a weeknight runs from the ninth floor.

TimeWhat happens
4:45 to 5:00 PMSeated; bread with garlic butter arrives
5:15 PMSteaks ordered
6:20 PMCheck paid, elevator down
6:25 PMSouth on Ballpark Way; allow extra for game traffic
7:05 PMFirst pitch

Saturday games follow the same shape, except the restaurant opens at 4 PM, so a 4:15 reservation is the one to take. The longer version of this plan, including what to order, is on the before-the-Rangers-game page.

Lunch before a weekday day game

When the Rangers play a weekday afternoon, Mercury’s lunch menu is the pregame meal. It starts at 11 AM Monday through Friday. The Chophouse Burger is $17, built to order with cheese, bacon, mushrooms or jalapeños as add-ons. The Marinated Steak Sandwich is $19, the Blackened Fresh Catch Tacos are $17 with spicy slaw, and the Chicken Fried Steak is $24 with whipped potatoes and rye whiskey cream gravy.

If you would rather have a steak at lunch prices, the Center-Cut Filet Mignon is $54 for 6 oz at midday, against $62 at dinner. Sandwiches come with steak fries, a small salad or a cup of soup. Add grilled chicken to any lunch salad for $10, grilled shrimp or salmon for $15, or marinated skirt steak for $16. The lunch page has the rest.

After the final out

Be honest with the clock here. A 7 PM game usually ends near 10, and the kitchen closes at 9 PM Monday through Thursday and 10 PM Friday and Saturday. A full dinner after a weeknight game does not fit. What does fit is a post-game meal after an early finish on a Friday or Saturday, or a late lunch after a day game. Dessert is the easier late stop when the timing is tight: Key Lime Pie is $16, Crème Brûlée $15, and an Espresso Martini is $17 at the bar.

If the game is the main event and dinner is the celebration, book the table for before first pitch and treat the ninth floor as the pregame. The after-the-game page walks through the nights it does work.

The room after the drive

The contrast with a ballpark concourse is the point. White tablecloths, leather chairs, tufted booths and crystal chandeliers under a curved wall of glass, with the ballpark’s roof out the window. A grand piano stands near the bar, and there is live piano on select evenings; ask which nights when you book.

Guest reviews on the site mention the warm bread, the ninth-floor view and a pianist and singer on the night of their visit. It is a room where the game can wait a few minutes. The glass-front wine wall at the entrance holds a list that runs from a $78 Willamette Pinot Noir to Opus One at $686, with wines by the glass as well as the bottle.

Concerts at the ballpark

Globe Life Field hosts major concerts as well as baseball, and the timing works the same way: two hours at the table, out the door about 45 minutes before doors close on you. Friday and Saturday shows give the longest evening, since Mercury serves until 10 PM those nights. Sunday shows are the exception, because the restaurant is closed. Saturday hours, 4 to 10 PM, match a typical evening show cleanly. Concert plans are laid out on the Globe Life concert dinner page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see Globe Life Field from a table at Mercury Chophouse?

Yes. The main dining room's curved window wall looks over the district, and Globe Life Field is one of the landmarks in the view along with AT&T Stadium and the Six Flags tower. Ask for a window-side table when you book; they go first on game nights.

What time should I book dinner for a 7:05 first pitch at Globe Life Field?

Between 4:45 and 5:00 PM on a weeknight. That gives two hours at the table, a four-minute drive south on Ballpark Way in normal conditions, and a cushion for game traffic. On Saturday the restaurant opens at 4 PM, so book 4:15.

Does Mercury serve lunch before a weekday afternoon Rangers game?

Yes. Lunch begins at 11 AM Monday through Friday with sandwiches from $14, the Chophouse Burger at $17 and the Chicken Fried Steak at $24. Steaks are on the lunch menu too, with the 6 oz Center-Cut Filet Mignon at $54.

Is Mercury still open after a Friday night Rangers game?

Friday hours run until 10 PM, so it depends on when the game ends. A quick nine innings from a 7 PM start can get you to the ninth floor before close; a long game will not. Call 817-381-1157 from the ballpark to check on last seating.

How bad is the drive between Mercury and Globe Life Field on game nights?

The distance is only about a mile, but the last stretch on Ballpark Way carries stadium traffic. Leaving the restaurant 40 to 45 minutes before first pitch is usually plenty. The tower's lot on Lamar sits outside the ballpark's paid lots, so getting away afterward is simpler than from inside the district core.
