Rooftop or ninth floor: a straight answer

If you searched for a rooftop restaurant in Arlington, you should know exactly what Mercury is before you book. It is not an open-air roof deck. The dining room is fully indoors, behind floor-to-ceiling glass. It is the top floor of a nine-story office tower, and the dining room is wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass along a curved wall.

For most people who want a rooftop, that is the better version of the idea.

The skyline you are looking at

Arlington’s skyline is not office towers. It is the Entertainment District: AT&T Stadium about 1.5 miles south, the roof of Globe Life Field about a mile away, the Six Flags Over Texas tower, Hurricane Harbor half a mile down Lamar, and the hotel towers and Texas Live! in between. From the ninth floor of Brookhollow Two you see all of it at once, because the tower sits just north of the district and looks across it.

The restaurant does not advertise a view of downtown Dallas or downtown Fort Worth, which are about 20 and 17 miles away. Plan on the district being the picture. On a Rangers or Cowboys night, or a stadium concert, it is a picture with the lights on.

When the lights come on

The skyline has two acts. The first is sunset, which the curved window wall takes on its west end. The second is the district lighting up after dark, which is why the later hours matter: the room is open until 9 PM Monday through Thursday and until 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. Saturday service starts at 4 PM, dinner only, and the restaurant is closed on Sunday.

In October, sunset comes around 7:00 PM, so a 6:30 reservation gives you both acts in one sitting. In June you would need to book close to 8 PM for the same effect. The sunset dinner page works through the calendar, and the late dinner page covers the 10 PM Friday and Saturday close.

The room after dark

At night the glass turns the district into the back wall of the dining room. Crystal chandeliers come up over the white tablecloths, the tufted booths sit under a blue-lit banquette wall, and the grand piano beside the windows near the bar is where the music comes from on the evenings a pianist is booked. Guests have written about a pianist and a singer on the same night; which nights that happens is not published, so ask when you book.

The marble-topped bar has a full back bar and TVs, so a game plays quietly at one end of the room while the stadium where it is being played glows through the window at the other. Behind a frosted door is the Boardroom, a private room for 8 to 20 with the same windows behind its long table.

Dinner nine floors up

The kitchen sends out a proper chophouse menu, not rooftop small plates. The Signature Wagyu & Black Truffle Ravioli is $34 to start. Steaks include the Center-Cut Filet Mignon at 6 oz $62 and 8 oz $74, the Dry-Aged 36 oz Porterhouse at $175, and the 27 oz Wagyu Long Bone Ribeye with crispy onion strings at $210. Seared Sea Bass with corn risotto is $57, and the Imperial version adds jumbo lump crab and grilled Gulf shrimp for $20.

Who books a skyline table

Couples on an anniversary, hosts with out-of-town guests who want to see the stadiums without buying a ticket, and people who plan to propose and want the district lit behind them. Groups of 8 to 20 take the Boardroom and get the same skyline through their own windows. The dress code is business casual: jeans without rips are fine, athletic wear and ball caps are not.
