East on I-30, 22 minutes

From downtown Fort Worth, Mercury is a straight run east on I-30 to the Ballpark Way exit, then about a mile north to E Lamar Blvd. Outside rush hour it is 17 miles and about 22 minutes. The Brookhollow Two tower has its own parking garage and outdoor lot, both free, at the entrance. The elevator takes you to the ninth floor, Suite 910.

Why a Fort Worth diner heads east

Fort Worth has steakhouses of its own, so the reasons to drive to Arlington are specific ones. The first is the room. Mercury has the top floor of a nine-story tower just north of the Entertainment District, and its curved wall of floor-to-ceiling windows looks over AT&T Stadium about 1.5 miles away, Globe Life Field about a mile away, the Six Flags tower and the district hotels. The sunset comes through the west end of the glass, from the direction you drove in.

The second is a game or a concert at either stadium. The third is a client or a friend in Dallas who does not want to cross the Metroplex. And the fourth is that Mercury has appeared on a Fort Worth publication’s list of the city’s ten best restaurants, which is a reason to see what the fuss is about.

Meeting Dallas in the middle

Mercury is about 17 miles from downtown Fort Worth and about 20 miles from downtown Dallas, which makes it the natural table for a dinner that has people coming from both directions. For a group, the Boardroom seats 8 to 20 at one long table with the windows behind it, semi-private seating reaches 28, and the room has an integrated AV system with a large screen for a presentation. One check is presented, and a food and beverage minimum is quoted with the proposal; allow 48 hours for a reply to a private dining request.

Game and concert nights from the west

Fort Worth traffic arrives on I-30 from the west, and the Ballpark Way exit puts you at Mercury before you meet the stadium lots, because the tower sits north of the district and off them. Leaving is the same in reverse: Lamar to Ballpark Way to I-30, without the stadium exits.

Cowboys home games are mostly Sundays, when the restaurant is closed, so the game dinners that work are Thursday, Monday and Saturday games and the Friday or Saturday night before a Sunday game. Rangers weeknight first pitches are usually around 7 PM. What is on the plate

The Hand-Cut Ribeye is $75 and the Bone-In Ribeye with Dijon butter is $90. The 8 oz Wagyu Filet with herbal compound butter is $105, and the Braised Bone-In Beef Short Rib over whipped potatoes with baby carrots is $82. For sides, the au Gratin Potatoes with bacon and the Creamed Spinach are $16 each.

The whiskey shelf leans Texan when you want it to: Garrison Brothers Small Batch at $23, Ironroot Harbinger at $20 and Lost Pines at $14, all 2 oz pours, alongside Blanton’s at $38 and Weller 12 at $18. Dinner ends with the after-dinner list: a Classic Irish coffee with Jameson at $16, a Carajillo at $17, or a Brandy Alexander shaken with ice cream at $18. Desserts run $15 to $17, with the Key Lime Pie at $16 and the Chocolate Torte, gluten free, at $15. Warm bread with garlic butter opens the meal, and parties of six or more carry a 20% gratuity.

Hearsay, for the seafood night

The same owner runs Hearsay – Arlington inside Choctaw Stadium, about 0.7 mile from Mercury, with a Prohibition-era room and a menu built on fine seafood. For a Fort Worth guest who has done the steak, it is the second trip east.
